Health in Japan. Social Epidemiology of Japan since the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, coedited by Professor Iso
In the second half of the 20th century Japan made remarkable gains in life expectancy. To this day Japan remains one of the healthiest and most equal societies in the world, despite the recent economic slowdown. Health in Japan brings together the research and broader perspectives of Japan's leading social epidemiologists in English for the first time. The book offers a comprehensive examination of the country's transitions to an ageing yet healthy society. Japan's Covid-19 pandemic experience strengthens this understanding. Focusing on the wider determinants of well-being, health and disease, this book is a must-read for any public health professional, epidemiologist, student or researcher with an interest in Japanese society, culture, and healthcare, and it is accessible to the non-specialist reader. HEALTH IN JAPAN has twenty chapters on (1) key stages of the life course, (2) chronic disease and risk factor trends, and (3) Japan and the planet. With chapters on key topics such as Chronic Disease, Ageing, Trends in Health Inequality, and Disasters and Health, this textbook offers a comprehensive examination of the major health issues facing the country.

It is a study to practice and evaluate organized activities for increasing health of the people in society, decreasing load of diseases, bridging a gap in health levels and coping with the threat against health in areas, countries and on the globe.
At our graduate school, in areas or job spaces, we set a goal to manage and increase health of the entire society and lengthen their life duration by mainly clarifying epidemiologically pathogenic factors of lifestyle-related diseases which include stroke, ischemic cardiac disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, cancers and so on, and also taking preventive measures organized through primary, secondary and tertiary. Now, we are working on public health problems in large cities like tuberculosis problems which are reflected in the gap between health levels in Japan, seeking the organized solutions and making the proposals as well.
We return the results of our research to areas and job spaces continuously and make practical preventive measures and assessments. Then, we make recommendations about administrative purposes to villages, towns, cities, prefectures and the country.
