- Summary of this article：This study investigated diabetic retinopathy (DR) as a marker of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adults with type 1 diabetes. Data from 16,547 individuals were compared with non-diabetic controls. Adults with type 1 diabetes were more likely to have CVD, and those without DR had a lower risk. DR severity increased the risk of developing CVD. Additionally, those with existing CVD had a higher likelihood of developing DR. The study highlights DR and CVD as mutually predictive risk factors.
- 論文の要約：本研究は、デンマークの医療データベースをもとに1型糖尿病患者が細小血管合併症である糖尿病網膜症（DR）を有することでその後の心血管疾患（CVD）の発症リスクが上昇するかを検討しました。まず、16,547人の1型糖尿病患者のデータを非糖尿病者と比較し、1型糖尿病患者はCVDを有する可能性が高いこと、そして、DRを有しない患者群はCVDリスクが低いこと、そして、DRの重症度が高いほどCVDリスクが上昇することを明らかにしました。また、逆にCVDの既往を有する患者群ではDRを発症しやすいことも確認されました。以上より、DRとCVDは互いに予測因子となることが示されました。
